Mermaid Hair

Who doesn’t want Mermaid Hair!? I was always the girl who had hair that would grow about 2 inches past my shoulder and stop. So, I was on the quest to find the source of this Mermaid Hair. Part of my fertility journey was finding cleaner products. I couldn’t believe this would lead me to the hair I always wanted. So, here is my regimen:

Shampoo & Conditioner

I have been using Prose for years. What I love: it is completely customized to your hair, needs, environment, everything. All the ingredients are clean and you can customize the scent. Use this link to get $20 off your first order. I do the subscribe & save, but snooze my order to every 3 or so months since I don’t wash very often. A few other products I love from them: The Pre-Shampoo Scalp Mask. This is a charcoal mask that really gets the scalp squeaky clean. Since I don’t wash my hair much it helps remove any oil or buildup. They also have a Hair Mask that is great to nourish your ends.

Detangling/Spray in Conditioner

I go DIY on this spray and literally call it Mermaid Spray. In a small glass spray bottle (something like this). I spray this mix from root to end to detangle and nourish hair. Here is a link to the Essential Oils I use. Please keep in mind that all EOs are not created equal. Make sure you are using pure EOs with no fillers (so not the one you bought at Sprouts). Add 20 drops of each, a squirt of witch hazel (this binds the oils to the water) and add water. Give it a quick shake before you spray.

Wet Brush

One other product I love is from Wet Brush. This has made brushing out all this hair so much easier and I am convinced my hair is not nearly as damaged as it was when I was trying to pick through it. If you have kiddos, I love the smaller paddle with fun characters like this one.

Dry Shampoo

Here is another DIY (sort of). It is hard to find a dry shampoo without the chemicals that actually works. I actually use Arrowroot Powder. It is sooo inexpensive and easy. Simply put it in a little shaker like this one. It helps disperse it on roots. Shake it on and tease through hair with fingers. If your hair is extra greasy you can add a TB of baking powder. For darker hair to 2 parts Arrowroot to 1 part raw cacao powder. You can tweak this amount based on your hair color.

Some of you may read ‘don’t wash my hair much’ and think there is no way you can do it. I get it. It is hard when you start. Your scalp has to adapt. I am to the point now where I wash once or twice a week and rarely use dry shampoo. It is worth it…and so much lower maintenance over time. Even if you want to stick to daily washing, its all good. Just switch to these clean products to help your hair grow!
